Lightning Travel Baseball & Softball

Our Lightning Travel Program is for those baseball and softball players who want to take their game to the next level of competition!  This is a highly competitive team that requires a tryout for each age level.  Everyone is welcome to try out, but not everyone will be selected to a roster.  Tryouts for Lightning typically occur in July of each year.  The Lightning teams for the 2025 season have already been selected!  If your child is interested, there may be a few spots left depending on the team, contact individual coaches for more information.

Each level of Lightning teams will vary on specific practice schedule days and frequencies at the coach's discretion, but typically practices begin following our July tryouts in preparation for our highly anticipated Lightning Fall Classic Tournament. For more information on this tournament, see our Lightning Fall Classic page.  Following the Fall Classic, there is typically a break in practices until January.  Winter practices are held indoors at excellent facilities such as The Dugout and The Lab.

Tryout Information

Tryouts for our 2025 teams have already been completed.  Some teams may have a few spots still available, please contact individual coaches for further details.

Tryout Format
Players will rotate through stations and be evaluated by a panel of coaches on hitting, fielding/throwing, and running. Pitchers and catchers will be evaluated on their specific skills.

Eligibility Requirements

All Lightning players must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Players must reside within the Plymouth-Canton Little League boundaries OR attend a school within these boundaries.  You can check your residency here.
  • Players must meet age requirements for their team.  You can determine your child's age group by checking their age on April 30, 2025.  They must be that age or younger to qualify for that team.  For example, if your child is 9 on April 30, 2025, they would qualify to play on the 9U team or above.  Birth certificates are regularly checked at tournaments for verification.
  • Players must play in the regular spring season at PCLL in 2025.

Cost of Participation

There are fees associated with Lightning to cover the cost of indoor practices, tournaments and jerseys.  PCLL's goal with the Lightning program is to make it more affordable in comparison to other travel teams.  Costs to play vary each year, and vary based on age level.  As part of their fees each player will receive a batting helmet, custom bag, and two uniforms including jersey, pants, socks, belt and hat or visor.

Tournament Information

Tournament dates are typically not available until the end of the calendar year or early into the next calendar year. Tournament fee, published level of play, dates, and locations are all factors that we consider when selecting which tournaments appear to be a good fit with our Lightning teams. As soon as our registration is confirmed with any tournament, we will share this information with our rostered families.

The number of tournaments played by each Lightning team varies by team age group, with our younger teams typically playing in less tournaments with a lower participation fee.

Tournaments are held on weekends, which means that a game could be scheduled on a Friday night, Saturday at any time, and Sunday at any time. Locations vary, but tend to stay within the greater southeast Michigan area.
